This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Gardeners Cowley in respect of the current financial year. It sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation within our operations and supply chains.

Our Business and Values

Gardeners Cowley provides gardening and related services, working with a network of suppliers, contractors and service partners. We are committed to conducting our business ethically and with integrity. Respect for human rights, fair treatment and safe working conditions are fundamental to how we operate.

Zero-Tolerance Approach to Modern Slavery

Gardeners Cowley has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly engage with, support, or do business with any organisation that is involved in, or complicit with, practices that exploit individuals or breach fundamental human rights.

Our zero-tolerance stance applies to all employees, directors, agency workers, contractors, consultants and any other individuals or organisations working on our behalf. Any breach of this policy is treated as a serious matter and may result in disciplinary action, termination of contracts and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.

Supply Chain Standards and Due Diligence

Our supply chains include providers of plants, materials, equipment, logistics and professional services. We expect all suppliers to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery and to uphold high standards of labour and human rights practices.

As part of our due diligence processes, we assess the potential risks of modern slavery within our supply chains. We communicate our expectations to suppliers and reserve the right to end relationships where there is evidence of non-compliance or unwillingness to improve standards.

Supplier Audits and Monitoring

Gardeners Cowley undertakes proportionate supplier audits and monitoring activities based on the level of risk identified. These may include reviewing documentation, requesting information on labour practices and conducting site visits where appropriate and feasible.

Through these audits we seek to verify that suppliers pay fair wages, provide safe working conditions, do not use forced, bonded or involuntary labour and ensure workers have the right to work. Where issues are identified, we work with suppliers to agree corrective actions and timeframes. Persistent non-compliance may result in the suspension or termination of the business relationship.

Training and Awareness

We provide relevant information and awareness-raising for employees and managers so they can recognise potential indicators of modern slavery and understand how to respond. This includes guidance on identifying risk factors in recruitment, subcontracting and procurement activities.

Our aim is to embed a culture where concerns are taken seriously and acted upon promptly, and where staff understand that ethical conduct is a core part of their responsibilities.

Reporting Concerns and Speaking Up

Gardeners Cowley encourages anyone working for or with us to report any concerns or suspicions of modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns may relate to our own operations, our suppliers or any third parties connected to our business.

Reports can be made to management or other designated contacts within the business. We will investigate all reports promptly, sensitively and, where possible, confidentially. We do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against any individual who raises a concern in good faith.

Continuous Improvement and Annual Review

We recognise that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing process and that risks can evolve over time. Gardeners Cowley is committed to continuous improvement in our approach, including strengthening risk assessments, enhancing due diligence and updating procedures where necessary.

This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement will be reviewed each year to assess its effectiveness and to reflect any changes in our business operations, supply chains or legal requirements. Updated statements will set out any additional steps taken and improvements made during the previous year.
